Review

Lads go off to play in crack-up comedy

Rating: 4.0

by Dannielle Elms

Out in the UK since August, the long-awaited Inbetweeners Movie comes off the back of the English cult TV series, and it's everything their audience could want: sex, booze, minge, more booze and more sex.

Just like the show, there's a lot more talk than action, as these four awkward teenagers and their coming-of-age stories are brought to the popular Greek Island party destination, Malia.

Will (Simon Bird), Jay (James Buckley), Neil (Blake Harrison) and Simon (Joe Thomas) have graduated and want to go on a 'lads' holiday' to celebrate. Simon's in bad spirits after being dumped by his girlfriend, and the boys have to put up with him pining over her while they try and find their own female counterparts.

We learn two main things from this film: 1. Partying in 'party destinations' sometimes isn't all it's cracked up to be and 2. If you are nice, the minge will come to you.

The partying is everywhere but the main objective for the boys are girls, and along with a series of mishaps, day by day the boys learn that it's better to be yourself in order to win over the opposite sex.

In the TV series, awkward moments are the glue that holds the plot together, and as such the comedy isn't liked by everyone. However, the movie is much easier to watch as the writers, for the most part, have replaced horridly awkward moments with clever banter and slapstick.

There are some absolutely crack-up scenes, the first of which shows the boys 'dancing' to seduce some girls, and Will's wise cracks, Neil's stupidity and Jay's foul mouth all add to the cocktail of events at Malia.

Inbetweeners does lose some points for a slightly unbelievable ending. There's also the question of whether the movie is the end of the boys forever, or if they'll do another series. If it is the end, it goes out with a bang.
