TAM Sainsbury, author of the popular Monkey Boo books, will read her children's stories at Books of Buderim this month.
Ms Sainsbury began writing when her younger daughter was just a toddler and it was hard to find books that suited her.
"I was reading her a lot of books and I found that I was making things up," she said.
"The books either had too many words for a little one-year-old or not the right pictures."
Ms Sainsbury, who is a script-writer for film and television, also found that there were certain books she kept going back to.
They had all the things children liked, such as birds and stars.
"I thought, well, I write. I could do this myself. I started to jot down ideas. I wanted to create a cute little character that could be appealing to little kids not only for books but for animation and soft toys as well."
And so Monkey Boo was born.
Monkey Boo is a fun-loving guy who enjoys the small things in life.
He has a circle of animal friends including Katy Kangaroo.
At the book event at 10am on September 21, Ms Sainsbury will be reading both her books, What Does Monkey Boo Love? and Monkey Boo Loves Colours.
Books can be purchased at the book shop and Ms Sainsbury will be signing books on the day.
