'I hate men': Screaming Gladstone woman's attack on cops

BARKING dogs set Karen Austin into a temper spin with her late-night screams for quiet and comments about men disturbing the peace of a Gladstone street.

Neighbours called police and when officers sought calm, then arrest her, Austin struck out with her legs.

Austin, 27, pleaded guilty in a Gladstone court to assaulting, and obstructing police, and causing public nuisance on August 18.

Police prosecutor Gavin Reece said Austin was screaming and yelling at her front fence at 9.50pm for the dogs to stop barking.

Police received multiple calls from the public about her behaviour and on arrival reported hearing Austin yelling out: "I hate men. Men are a bunch of f***ing ***s".

Jerking her arms away Austin attempted to break free from an officer's grip.

Handcuffed and swearing loudly, Austin dropped to the ground and began kicking wildly with both her feet.

"She attempted to kick the officer multiple times but did not connect... deliberate strikes," Mr Reece said.

"I was highly intoxicated. I can't remember anything," said Austin who was sentenced to 12 months probation with counselling.
