Blues lift to upset Pies

AFTER a week dominated by headlines about coach Brett Ratten's shaky hold on his job, Carlton reacted in grand style with an upset 23-point win over arch-rival Collingwood on Friday night.

The emotion-charged Blues led at every change and overcame injury setbacks to score just their second victory in eight games, winning 12.13 (85) to 8.14 (62) in front of 75,755 fans at the MCG.

Carlton's shock triumph ended Collingwood's 10-game winning streak and improved the Blues' win-loss tally to 7-7.

"We started really well and everything was sort of set up the way we wanted to play structure-wise," Collingwood skipper Nick Maxwell told Grandstand.

"But they just slowly just started to take control of the game.
