A COMBINATION of gymnastics, weightlifting, calisthenics, running, rowing and more - that's how Amanda Wilson describes CrossFit.
The CrossFit Contessa owner has jumped on board the Sunshine Coast Daily's Kick The Kilos campaign and is encouraging people to give CrossFit a go.
"One of the most common words you'll hear associated with CrossFit is functional, this means that the exercise we do develops skills, strength and fitness that is directly transferable to everyday life.
"I encourage everyone to try CrossFit at least once. If you struggle with motivation, bored at the gym or need to kick it up a notch from normal routine, come and see us. We will show you a fun, intense and exciting way to train.
"Every day is different and challenging, you're working your entire body through strength, cardio, balance, co-ordination, flexibility and so much more."
Ms Wilson said many people became involved in CrossFit to lose the extra kilos but became hooked.
"At first you join to get fit or lose weight and in no time at all you notice your goals become 'I want to climb to the top if the rope' or 'front squat 50kg'. Then, your original goal of losing weight just happens," she said.
Ms Wilson said those who had been inspired to be active by the Kick The Kilos campaign shouldn't be nervous about trying CrossFit Contessa for the first time.
"This is actually a big concern to a lot of people," she said.
"I got into this industry to help people who need help. I hear a lot of people suggest they get a bit fitter first or say 'I'll never be fit enough for that' when they are the people who would benefit the most.
"We train all kinds of men and women from all walks of life with fitness levels ranging from absolute beginners to marathon runners to professional sports people and everyone in between. We have a massive focus on community. Friends are made as soon as you walk through the door. The person who's squatting 100kg will high five the person squatting the 15kg bar because they're both working their hardest."
CrossFit Contessa has classes for ages five and up, sessions for guys and girls, powerlifting classes, personal training, booty camp and an on-site massage therapist. Go to www.facebook. com/crossfitcontessa/.
