Bureau says rain will ease today

RAIN is expected to ease today, although some areas of the Sunshine Coast can expect isolated showers packing up to 100mm of rain.

The Bureau of Meteorology said yesterday's low that developed off the Coast had been expected to move in south-east overnight.

"We were expecting the worse to fall overnight. It's been a reasonable rainfall event," forecaster Janine Yuasa said.

She predicted isolated showers that could bring more than 100mm of rain.

Before yesterday afternoon's deluge, Geoff Myer, CEO of USM, which is running this weekend's Mooloolaba Triathlon, said the forecast was favourable.

"It's saying it's going to be a good weekend. If it's a wet tri, it's a wet tri," he said. "At this stage it won't really affect us."

Mr Myer said the major concern was surf conditions for Mooloolaba Beach.
