Cats do enough to escape Tigers

GEELONG survived a spirited challenge from Richmond to win their match by 10 points on Sunday at Kardinia Park.

The Tigers drew level with the first two goals of the final term, but the Cats managed to lock the ball in their half of the ground and won 11.9 (75) to 9.11 (65).

Cats captain Joel Selwood and defender Harry Taylor starred, while midfielder Joel Corey was outstanding in the final term of the physical and scrappy match.

Geelong small forward Allen Christensen snapped a brilliant goal midway through the last quarter to give his team some breathing space.

Brett Deledio was best for the Tigers with 31 disposals and fellow midfielders Shaun Grigg and Nathan Foley also impressed.
