Dave's a true everyday local hero
TODAY we meet another of Rockhampton's emergency services heroes, Dave Paterson.
Dave is a rescue crewman for the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service, but he hasn't always been there.
Prior to joining the service Dave spent 17 years in the Australian Army where he gained experience as a helicopter crewman.
"My most memorable mission was conducted in Pakistan after the 2005 earthquake," Dave said.
"We transported a family, including an infant who was born during the earthquake, to a Military Field Hospital where they were treated for an array of injuries and illnesses."
When he's not helping save lives, Dave loves playing golf, building and flying radio-controlled model helicopters and spending time with his wife.
While most people struggle to get out of bed for work in the morning, for Dave it's easy.
"I feel blessed to have a job where I wake up wanting to go to work," he said.
"The reward of helping to save lives is indescribable."
Show your appreciation for our everyday heroes, like Dave, by coming along to upcoming Emergency Services Day.
It will be held at the Rockhampton Heritage Village on July 29.
