Ensure postcard choice counts
NOOSA'S de-amalgamation postcard push to free Noosa is swiftly gathering momentum and signatures.
On Wednesday Noosa Independence Alliance spokesman Noel Playford said the tally had reached about 2500 - about a third of the number required before Local Government Minister David Crisafulli will consider instigating the de-amalgamation process.
That is, of course, as long as all of the signed NIA postcards demanding a vote on de-amalgamation are from properly enrolled Noosa voters.
"It's happening a little swifter than I expected," Mr Playford said.
"We need about 7000 signatures from Noosa voters, so we are about a third of the way there.
"What we have to do is sit down and check the electoral role to make sure the postcards we include in our submission to the minister are all people who are entitled to vote.
Another concern from the NIA is that some people are not properly filling out their postcards, which will invalidate them, making it impossible for their view to count unless they resend them.
Names needed to be printed of each person and then the declaration that they are registered Noosa voters need to be signed, as per the postcard instructions.
"We expect there will be people who have moved to the area and are not enrolled yet, who want to have their say, as well as ratepayers who own property here and even people from the likes of Doonan and Verrierdale who want to be part of a new Noosa.
"Even though they cannot vote in a poll, we will send them to the minister as well."
