ECO fashion is designing a style fit for a new world look and a 28-year-old Sunshine Beach resident is wearing it first.
This week Amanda Rootsey, self-styled world first eco-model and environmental impact consultant, will spread the news about ethical design, sustainable fashion, eco networks and fair trade at this year's International Fashion Festival.
Her message is one from the heart, developed after intense research for her own cancer cure.
At 24 with her striking but gentle Audrey Hepburn like qualities she was living the dream as an international model in Italy.
"It was fantastic, "the quietly spoken Amanda said. "I worked as a model for Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence.
During that time a friend pointed out a lump on her neck and three months later back on the Sunshine Coast, the lump was diagnosed as Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Since the oncologist had said it was not an aggressive cancer in early stages, she opted to firstly look into natural therapies treatment.
The research empowered her to change the direction of her life.
Fortunately, Amanda kept up regular CT scans at Noosa Junction and 18 months later a scan revealed a fast growing tumour on the back of her neck at the end of her spine.
That afternoon she was admitted to the PA hospital in Brisbane and she underwent a chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
Now, 18 months into remission, Amanda say believes she coped well with the conventional treatments because of the wellbeing she enjoyed from her vegan diet and meditation.
Following her investigations into food and diet, she extended her philosophy to clothing.
She said her mission is to raise awareness about the world we are creating each time we make a purchase and shed light on all of the wonderful labels that are making positive changes to reduce their impact on the planet and produce their garments ethically.
The Vegan Era CREW has decided to put together an Australia-wide Vegan Card! This is an exclusive Vegan card that will enable you to connect the community to as many Vegan friendly businesses as possible.
