PRIME Minister Julia Gillard and her predecessor Kevin Rudd will appear together in Brisbane today when Queensland Labor officially launches its election campaign.

The federal leadership battle overshadowed the first week of the campaign, and neither Ms Gillard nor Queenslander Mr Rudd has joined Premier Anna Bligh on the campaign trail until now.

"I believe that people in Queensland respect not only the office of the Prime Minister, but the Prime Minister herself," Ms Bligh said.

Yesterday's Galaxy poll provided a confidence boost for Labor ahead of the launch, with incumbent Kate Jones leading LNP leader Campbell Newman in Ashgrove 51.5 per cent to 48.5 per cent on a two-party preferred basis.
