Jono stood out in tough win
WELCOME to season 2012 and firstly a very big thank you to Laguna Real Estate for the generous donation of a new set of playing jumpers for the boys.
It's always an unknown going into the first game of the year, but you just have to back your personnel and the work we've been able to put into them over the pre-season to put in a strong showing.
The Under 18 Tigers game against Sandgate was a real arm wrestle over the first three quarters, with very little separating the sides.
At three-quarter-time we led by three points and the game was there for the taking. Fortunately our boys piled on five goals to one for the final quarter, resulting in a 29-point win.
Jono Freeman was a standout all day, presenting constantly and working tirelessly to finish with roughly a dozen marks (many contested) and four goals.
Jed Brain on a wing won plenty of footy with his run. Hayden Slater kicked our first two goals before moving to defence where he took some telling marks.
Ben Fuller, our new recruit from NT was strong all day. Monte Reeves was effective through the middle while Jai Fitzpatrick was composed with his disposals in defence.
Cain Tickner provided the individual highlight with a four-bounce effort starting from half back and slotting through a major from 45m out!
It's a long season, and things will get harder as we progress; starting with our arch rivals Maroochydore this Saturday at Maroochydore at 5pm following our seniors. Congratulations to Jono Freeman and Cain Tickner being recently selected in the Qld U18s Scorpions team.
