GYMPIE AFL prodigy Lachlan Keeffe was in the midst of the epic story played out by Collingwood and Essendon on at the MCG on Anzac Day.

The match will go down as one the most exciting of the year after Collingwood took a last minute win 11-14 -80 to Essendon's 11-13-79.

Keeffe playing for the Pies was a major character in the final nail biting minutes in front of 87,000 fans.

Collingwood was in front on the scoreboard and Keeffe found himself chasing a loose ball in defence when it took a nasty bounce in the teeth of goal.

The Gympie product went to change direction but slipped on the wet MCG turf.

The Sherren was then picked up by Essendon's Brent Stanton who snapped a goal. Stanton and Keeffe could have been forgiven for thinking it was the match winner.

Just two minutes and two seconds remained in the game.

After the centre bounce, the ball ended up on the ground in the Collingwood goal square and Jarryd Blair soccered the ball across the line for the match winner to the delight off the Collingwood faithful and a jubilant Keeffe.
