IF GOING to the gym isn't your style but you still want to get fit then why not give a bootcamp a try?

There's a variety of bootcamps on the Sunshine Coast from ones held on the beach, girl-only bootcamps, military bootcamps and even bootcamps that run for 18 hours straight through the night.

Xanthe Smith at High Gear Fitness has been running bootcamp style group training classes for more than a year now and said it provides all the benefits of going to the gym without the gym environment.

"High Gear Fitness is bootcamp style group training classes which uses body weight exercises to improve cardiovascular systems and also weighted exercises to improve overall strength,” she said.

"People of all fitness levels can take part High Gear Fitness classes as they can work at their own pace and their abilities.”

Xanthe said bootcamp classes were perfect for people who struggled to find motivation to hit the gym by themselves.

"I believe that people get more out of being in a group environment and work off each other as well as push each other to help stay motivated.”

She said by using different equipment like tyres, battle ropes, weight vests, dead balls and sleds into the workouts it also meant participants never got bored.

And while she said members at High Gear Fitness would probably hate her for the number of burpees she makes them do, they'd love her in the long run when they started to see results.

"After joining they'll see improvements like weight loss and overall muscle toning,” she said.

"So it's worth coming along and giving it a go.”

Xanthe said first-timers didn't have to be nervous about attending class because their was a key focus on creating an encouraging atmosphere for all members.

"High Gear Fitness is very welcoming and makes you feel in place and comfortable compared to how you feel in a gym environment,” she said.

"Members have lots of fun in our classes and make everyone feel part of the team.”
