'LNP can't head off car premium'
THE Queensland government has hit back at claims it has reneged on its word to freeze car registration fees.
It was reported yesterday the state's Motor Accident Insurance Commission will announce an increase in compulsory third-party insurance premiums this week.
The increase - the first since 2009 - will mean motorists will pay more when doing their car registrations.
It comes after the Liberal National Party promised to freeze car registration costs for the next three years before it won the March 24 Queensland election.
But the Transport and Main Roads Minister, Scott Emerson, said the government would stick by its promise - freezing motor vehicle registration fees for three years from July 1.
