Matt joins Coast fun run
MATT Golinski's recovery has continued to stun family and friends, with the celebrity chef taking part in a 5km fun run at Point Cartwright last Saturday.
Matt was one of hundreds of runners who turned out for the Sunshine Coast Run Series event along the boardwalk.
A family spokeswoman said resuming his running was part of Matt's focus on continuing his recovery.
"What many of his fellow runners may not have noticed was that he completed the run with two pink roses stuck in his hat," she said.
"They were in honour of his twin daughters, Willow and Sage, who would have been celebrating their 13th birthday today."
Matt spent almost five months in hospital after suffering horrific burns in the house fire that claimed the lives of his wife and three daughters on Boxing Day last year.
His physical recovery has reportedly been progressing well since he left hospital on April 27 and he has been seen at several functions and events across the Sunshine Coast.
The family spokeswoman said Matt had received permission from his rehabilitation team before doing the run and was wearing a heart monitor to ensure his heart did not race too fast.
"Burns survivors often find their heart rate is accelerated as a result of their injuries while the body works overtime trying to heal the burnt tissue and scarring," she said.
"It's quite incredible to think that for the majority of the past six months, Matt was struggling for his life and in an induced coma, and now he's running.
"He is such an inspiration - an amazing and brave man."
