Men behind women in gender indicators
MEN just aren't up to scratch in comparison with their female counterparts, data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistic revealed on Friday.
The ABS analyses the differences between men and women and releases the information each year in a "gender indicators" publication.
The report said men had fallen behind women on education, health and crime indicators.
Meanwhile, men were three times more likely to die in a car accident, and one and a half times more likely to die from cancer.
The bleak picture for the male of the species did not improve in the justice system, with more than 13 times as many men in prison as women in 2011.
THE GENDER DIVIDE:
- 75% of boys would make it to Year 12, compared with 84% of girls.
- 30% of men (25 to 29 years) complete a degree, compared with 41% of women.
- Men three times more likely to die from suicide or a car accident than women.
- Men one and a half times more likely to die from cancer than women.
- Men up to one and a half times more likely to be victims of assault or robbery than women.
- Men nearly four times more likely to commit offences to cause an injury than women.
