MICRO-GARDEN expert and online publisher Anne Gibson is back by popular demand at Peregian's Veggie Village next weekend with a workshop on how to make the most from your small garden, courtyard or balcony.
Anne said her aim was to help people learn to grow nutrient-dense food in creative containers, vertical gardens and small spaces, using low-cost strategies and easy DIY techniques that work all year round.
"It's incredibly satisfying to just step outside your kitchen and pick your own fresh greens, salad or herbs, and children can start growing successfully in their own pots," she said.
"Small places can mean less time spent on maintenance but they can still be very productive."
Anne has a background in sustainable agriculture and horticulture, and 14-years experience working on urban property projects.
She said that with a bit of basic knowhow and some problem-solving tips, anyone could have an abundant little edible garden that worked all year round.
"Well-designed micro-gardens can also be spaces of beauty and fragrance and they can improve your air quality at home," she said.
The workshop, at Veggie Village on November 17, from 9am, costs $8 for members ($10 for non-members), with a free workbook of tips.
