Mower Man gets new set of wheels
THE Lawnmower Man, Claude Harvey, has a new set of wheels for the last legs of his epic journey thanks to a generous Sunshine Coast business.
Mr Harvey is in the final stages of a 2260km fundraising trek from Mt Isa to the Gold Coast in support of child protection advocacy group Bravehearts.
The 65-year-old has walked almost the length and breadth of Queensland, all the while pushing his lawnmower and rattling the tin for the charity.
Pacific Mowers at Mudjimba presented Mr Harvey with a refurbished mower yesterday after seeing the state of his bashed and beaten machine in the Sunshine Coast Daily.
Mr Harvey said he was taken aback when Pacific Mowers owner Kevin Kerr and manager Zed Smith got in contact.
"It's great, the wheels were about to fall off the last one," he said.
"I was a bit surprised when they rang up and offered to give me another lawnmower. It's just awesome. They've just very nice people. I thank them from the bottom of my heart."
Mr Harvey has made similar treks in the past, travelling from the Gold Coast to Sydney and the Gold Coast to Cairns.
He will set out from Caboolture tomorrow and hopes to reach the Gold Coast within a week.
Ms Smith said she jumped at the opportunity to help Mr Harvey after reading about his devotion to his cause.
"To be doing this for so long, to give up a massive part of his life ... when I read how many kilometres he was doing, it gave me goose bumps," she said.
