AUSTRALIAN Meagen Nay has finished fifth behind United States' superstar Missy Franklin in the women's 200 metre backstroke.

Franklin, the 17-year-old who already has two gold medals at this meet, blitzed the entire field, smashing the world record on her way to victory.

Nay never troubled the leaders, a 'relaxed' first 50 metres forcing her to play catch-up for the rest of the race.

"I def would have like to medaled," Nay said

"It's a little bit disappointing, but that's all I had."
