No rest for Division 11 voters
DIVISION 11 voters are in for a shock if they think they have the day off from voting on April 28, given that Councillor Russell Green has been returned unopposed for the next four years.
Cr Green said this week that many people are under the impression that they do not have an obligation to vote on Saturday - or earlier if they want to pre-poll at the Noosa Christian Outreach Centre at Noosaville (which opened last Monday).
"I was at the Farmers Market on the weekend and at least 15 people came up to me and said isn't it good we don't have to vote," Cr Green said.
He has had to disappoint them by saying that they will still have to turn out to put pencil to ballot paper to endorse one of the eight mayoral candidates standing here on the Coast.
Cr Green said all the Division 11 election polling stations will be set up as normal to decide who will replace retiring Mayor Bob Abbot.
"Other people have been telling me they are confused about which division they are in," he said.
He said Division 11 takes in most of coastal Noosa from Peregian up to Noosa Heads and across to Noosaville, with Tewantin more or less the starting point for Division 12, where Cr Lew Brennan faces one challenger in Tony Wellington.
Division 11 also takes in areas like Beckmans Rd, St Andrews Dr and Noosa Outlook
Division 11 is listed on the council website as: Castaways Beach, (section of) Doonan, Marcus Beach, Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Peregian Beach, (section of) Peregian Springs, Sunrise Beach, Sunshine Beach, (section of) Tewantin.
Division 12 is listed as Black Mountain, Boreen Point, Como, Cooran, Cooroibah, Cooroy, Cooroy Mountain, Cootharaba, Federal, Kin Kin, Lake Macdonald, Noosa North Shore, Pinbarren, Pomona, Ridgewood, Ringtail Creek, Tewantin, Tinbeerwah.
