‘Noosa trashed'
A NOOSA resident believes Noosa's most pristine natural asset is being treated like a Third World camp.
The local says up to five to six camper vans can be seen parked and basically inhabited outside the main Noosa National Park entrance at Noosa Heads. In recent times a tent was pitched on the footpath area across the road and an open fireplace was burning.
Campers have been seen urinating outdoors as well as doing their ablutions in areas popular with visitors.
The concerned resident has taken photos of piles of trash piling up beside the vans.
"The most pristine area in Noosa is being trashed - turned into a trailer park and council doesn't seem to be doing anything about it," the resident said. "There are no signs outside the park to say that camping is illegal."
A council spokesman said illegal camping is a problem right across the region as tourists, mostly from overseas, use camper vehicles to holiday.
"Response services officers undertake daily patrols of our region to identify and move on illegal campers. Over the past few weeks a number of people in vans have been moved on from the streets adjacent to the Noosa National Park. The incidents of illegal camping in this area fluctuates." Consideration is being given to the placement of no camping sign or signs near the park.
