Pete's shot of whiskey blues

UNTIL now locals associated family man Pete Cullen with Noosa Longboards in Hastings St.

But eight years ago, he was far from the Sunshine Coast touring the country as the former frontman of the Brisbane blues/rock band that played support for top gigs such as Hoodoo Gurus, You Am I and Spiderbait.

After that he changed direction to devote more time to his family, making a move to Noosa from Brisbane and work at Noosa Longboards.

Pete said he's been very happy in this position and feels blessed to live in such a great place.

But in 2011, he couldn't say no to a fabulous opportunity to once again bring his inner musical self out of the shop and onto a CD.

"Because I hadn't played here for those seven years, no one up here had heard me play," he said.

"And they thought I would be crap," he laughed.

Despite the views of his mates, Pete was offered an extraordinary opportunity when he inadvertently met the SBS show Rockwiz band a couple of years ago.

Pete said he watched the band in a Sydney performance and met them after the show.

The rest is history. Pete took up their generous offer of recording with him and now the fruits of their endeavours have flourished with the creation of a country blues CD, Tom Whiskey Blues - a solo album by Peter Cullen with the Rockwiz professionals as the back-up band.

"I have written all of the songs over a long period of time," he said.

"And a lot of the music too."

He said the whole recording experience had been "awesome" along with expensive and time consuming.

Pete is about to hit the road on promo tours, but before our local muso entertains the national crowds you have a chance this Sunday to see a live performance.

Fast Facts

Pete Cullen will be playing with his mate JB Lewis and a live backing band this Sunday at Cafe le Monde, Hastings St, between 3-5pm and you are welcome to come along and enjoy the show.
