MATT Golinski's release from hospital coincides with the end of the national fundraising campaign Plates for Mates.

The month-long fundraiser was conceived by a group of Matt's friends and some of Australia's leading chefs as a way to express their care, concern and support for him.

Some of the big names involved were Janelle Bloom, George Calombaris, Manu Feildel and Gary Mehigan.

The money will go towards the Matthew Golinski Recovery Fund to aid Matt's ongoing recovery, and to the McComb Foundation, to fund a research grant named in honour of Rachael, Starlia, Sage and Willow Golinski.

A Golinski family spokeswoman said more than 100 fundraising initiatives had been logged with the fundraiser with a couple more to be held this week.

"Businesses all across the country including a high number of Sunshine Coast businesses participated in the April Plates for Mates fundraising initiative," she said.

"Organisers report that many events sold out including Montville's Spicers Clovelly Estate Lunch, Coast Restaurant at Hervey Bay's dinner, Brisbane's Brett's Wharf launch dinner and Sydney's Steel Bar and Restaurant's dinner with some venues holding waiting lists."

A tally of money raised should be known soon.
