AS A 49-year-old woman categorised as high risk on the National Breast Cancer Registry, Sandra De Jersey cannot stress enough the importance of getting a mammogram.

The Landsborough woman takes three hours out of every year to have a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy in Brisbane, after losing her mother six years ago to breast cancer and seeing her aunt battle the dreaded disease.

Mrs De Jersey said the process was stressful, but well worth the time to know she had the all-clear.

"When my mother had cancer there wasn't as much technology around," she said.

"There's so many websites where people can read about cancer and gain information now.

"The earlier detected the better."

To increase cancer awareness, Mrs De Jersey fundraises for Cancer Council Queensland every year as part of Pinktober.

Yesterday she raised another $500 for the cause when more than 20 women gathered at her home for a Girls' Night In.

The fundraiser was nothing short of fun, with the colourful ladies donning their best pink outfits, eating, laughing and drinking champagne.

"Mum always loved parties and entertaining," Mrs De Jersey said. "It's great to not only raise money for the Cancer Council but have a bit of fun at the same time."
