Shelley's our milking champion

GYMPIE Times reporter Shelley Strachan has come from underdog to milking champion after winning the celebrity milk off at the Gympie Show.

Shelley's family used to own a dairy farm but she admitted she was a bad milker even as a child.

Her competition was Dairy farm owner John Cochrane, who had a handicap (not just his arm in a sling) but started later than the other competitors.

Even though he owns a dairy farm John said he had not milked a cow by hand for a number of years.

During the competition he was even more disadvantaged, his cow kept knocking over his bucket!

Also having a go was Krystle Johnson the Dairy Showgirl and Bankwest's Travis Brockman.

Travis admitted he had not milked a cow in years.

Krystle was a little disadvantaged by the fact she doesn't drink milk, but she was not scared of the cow, unlike Shelley, having grown up around horses.

"I've never milked a cow before, but I've milked a horse," Krystle said.

The cows for the milk off were donated by Nambour High.
