CLOSE your eyes and imagine you are floating blissfully amongst the clouds.

Maleny's Spicers Tamarind Retreat's Spa Anise is a place to relax, rejuvenate and allow your body and soul to take you to a place that is out of this world.

Spa Anise just celebrated its first birthday and general manager David Assef said the business had found its niche in the Hinterland's health and wellbeing sector.

"We have been well received with locals and tourists alike," Mr Assef said.

"We certainly see the health and wellbeing industry as a growth market for the tourism industry."

Spa Anise manager Adam Humphrey said apart from being extremely relaxing, the spa treatments had a number of health benefits many people were unaware of.

"From a massage point of view it helps to lower stress levels, it helps with the sympathetic nervous system and slows the heart rate," he said.

"In a high-paced society, anything that can reduce tension levels is a good thing; reducing muscle tension in the body helps speed up metabolism so a one-hour massage is equivalent to half an hour of exercise.

"A rejuvenating or hydrating facial can clear acne and congestion or aid fine lines and wrinkles to moisturise and renourish sun-damaged skin."

Anxiety and depression are major problems in today's world and many of the spa's treatments can help prevent or alleviate these conditions.

"It is amazing what happens internally when you are having a massage," Mr Hunphrey said.
