MORE than 30 grommets from as far as Lennox Head in northern New South Wales will converge on Coolum on Saturday for the inaugural Super Grom Surf Off 2012.

Aimed at promoting competitive surfing for the youngest groms, the Super Grom Surf Off will see stars of the future Reef Heazlewood (Caloundra) and Mikey McDonagh (Lennox Head) in action against some of the Sunshine Coast's best young local surfers.

Current World No. 6 Julian Wilson has lent his support to the event with a sponsorship for the most promising young surfer on the day.

He also sent some words of advice for the young surfers: "Keep it fun, competing is not everything - it's the way you compete that counts."

With support from Coolum Boardriders and local businesses, the inaugural event promises to be a day to remember for the kids. Supporters include Penny Skateboards, FCS Softboards, Coolum Surf, Widebay Motorcycles, Zee Wetsuits, The Boardstore, Shotgun Surfboards, Elite Surf Coaching, Performance Physio and Coolum Surfing School.

Breaka's youth ambassador, Coolum's Kelly Norris, will also be at the event to cheer on the aspiring surfing stars and help the Breaka team give away some freebies.

The Surf Off will begin at 7am, after a pre-event briefing in Tickle Park.

Fun, sun, skate and surf - it doesn't get any better than that if you're a grom.
