THE new face of the Sunshine Coast may be a little bit older, a little bit wiser and making more money, but more of us are out of work now than five years ago.
Data from last year's Census released yesterday by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has painted an updated picture of the typical Coast resident.
It shows that there are now more of us than before, with 306,909 residents calling the region home.
That number is up from the 276,267 recorded in the last census in 2006.
There have also been changes in average age, income, booming job sectors and the unemployment number.
There are 145,345 people over the age of 15 working full-time.
That is an increase on four years ago when 126,929 people were working on the Coast.
But while there are more of us working, there are also more unemployed.
The Coast's figure has risen from 7302 people in 2006 to 10,266 last year.
In 2006 the top three industries of employment were retail (16,718 people employed), construction (15,282) and health care and social assistance (13,119).
Today, health care and social assistance employs the most people with 18,005, followed by retail trade (17,128) and construction (15,626).
We are also earning more. In 2006 the median individual income was $428 a week and the median family income was $1048 a week.
Last year that increased to $519 for individuals and $1219 for families.
Our median age has increased a year to 42.
We're also paying more to keep a roof over our heads.
In 2006 the median housing loan repayment a month was $1300 and the median rent a week was $235.
Last year, median mortgage repayments a month were $1863 and median rent a week was $320.
The average number of persons per bedroom (1.1) and average household size (2.5) remained unchanged.
We're also still very much a region of lovebirds.
Of people aged 15 and over, 51.5%, or 115,385, are married. There are 23,638 in de facto relationships while 3712 live it up as singles. In 2006, 105,181 people were married, and 19,686 were in de facto relationships.
