Fire wins Qld State League final

THE Sunshine Coast Fire claimed its third consecutive Queensland State League grand-final win and its fourth in five years by beating Whitsunday on penalties at Bokarina this afternoon.

Scores were locked at 2-2 after regulation.

Whitsunday boasted a 1-0 lead at half-time through Dean Corbett but retiring Fire striker Shaun Blackman levelled the scores and the Fire hit the front through captain Tyson Holmes.

A goal to Miners' Michael Leslie in the 86th minute ensured play would continue into extra-time.

Neither side could find a goal in that period and when Whitsunday's Dean Faithfull missed a penalty in the shoot-out, man-of-the-match Greig Henslee clinched victory with his effort.
