JUST behind the white picket fence on Mountain View Rd awaits a slice of Hinterland heaven.

Maleny Traditional Bed and Breakfast opened earlier this week and is the perfect place for tourists and locals alike to sit back, put their feet up and relax.

The classic B&B is the masterpiece of Rick and Rita Thurgood.

The couple began construction of their dream home in 1999, and in between running their own business and making the move from Brisbane to Maleny, they have created the perfect home away from home.

"It is an enjoyable business in an area that we want to be in," Mrs Thurgood said.

"We're trying to offer people a little bit extra by going the extra mile, things like chocolate and port in the room and a complimentary anniversary bottle of wine.

"I think it's just treating people as you would like to be treated yourself."

As they make themselves at home guests are treated to tea and coffee facilities, an impressive library, a beautiful sitting room and lots of private places to curl up with a good read.

The gardens are beautifully landscaped and there is a barbecue, pool and sitting areas.

There is even a little something extra for the blokes.

"What I think we do offer is the vintage car collection," Mr Thurgood said.

"The blokes can come to the shed to have a look at the cars while the ladies can go into Maleny.

"It's probably one thing we do have that is unique," Mr Thurgood said.
