THE Bribie Island Croquet Club will host the State Golf Croquet Divisional Singles this weekend.

Only 11 players will take part across two divisions but competition is sure to be fierce, with two of Bribie's own challenging for the division one title.

They will play best of three games on the Sunday and club president Florence McLaren said Heinz Breusted was in with a good chance of victory.

"Heinz won the state open championship in February," McLaren said.

"We'd imagine that Heinz would be wanting to come out as the winner."

McLaren said the competition would be a good chance for players to test their skills.

"It's an elite group," she said.

"Especially for the second division. It will give them a chance to improve because they're not playing against the lower (handicapped) players."

The state singles will be on October 27-28 at the Bribie Island Croquet Club, Sunderland Dr, Banksia Beach. Play starts at 8am.
