Noosa’s Keirra Trompf has made an encouraging start to the season after helping the Queensland Firebirds to a 50-46 win over trans-Tasman rival Central Pulse in the final of the ANZ Championships’ pre-season tournament.

Trompf, who was given a one-year contract extension at the end of last season, also played in the preliminary rounds of the tournament leading up to the final in Queenstown.

Firebirds’ coach Roselee Jencke said the trans-Tasman tournament was a great opportunity to get a handle on the New Zealand style of play and umpiring.

“It’s good to be able to come over and have a look at the New Zealand teams because we only get the opportunity to play them once during the competition. It’s great to get that experience against a different style,” she said.

The Firebirds now have three weeks to prepare for the start of the ANZ Championship season.
