Welcome boost for shows
AGRICULTURAL shows in the area could soon see an upgrade, with the Newman Government recently announcing a boost of funding to shows in the Glass House electorate.
The boost will see more than $38,000 go into the Woodford AP&I Association, Maleny Show Society and Caboolture and District Pastoral, Agricultural and Industrial Association.
The funding comes after a recent survey revealed shows had a significant positive impact on local communities.
Member for Glasshouse Andrew Powell said the funding was a vote of confidence from the State Government in the important role of shows in communities like Maleny.
"We all know that money is tight this year," he said.
"We have a responsibility to make sure every cent counts, and bringing people together to showcase the best in the region, whether its cattle, produce or cooking, is a tradition we're proud to support.
"The real heroes are the Show Society members who put in dedicated efforts, in many cases year after year, to provide this highlight for local people."
Mr Powell said it was vital the agriculture shows received the funds as many were at risk of folding. "These much-loved highlights would struggle without injection from the government and people from the regions as they are still popular and these shows are seen as an economic base," he said.
