Whale shark meets divers in rare visit to Noosa waters
IT'S a whale.
No, it's a shark - the world's biggest fish no less - making what is believed to be a rare visit to Noosa waters.
A whale shark spent 40 minutes playing with eight lucky tourists diving with Dive Noosa on a recent excursion.
Business owner Brett Bell said he didn't believe it when one of the divers he was with on Jew Shoal Reef said they spotted a whale shark.
"Then this massive shape went under the boat," Mr Bell said.
"Everyone jumped in and snorkelled for 40 minutes. The whale shark just kept cruising around and coming back to us, coming up to the boat.
"It swam straight up to me at one point, it was just phenomenal."
Mr Bell said he had never had a whale shark approach him in his five years with the business.
"I've only heard of a whale shark being in Laguna Bay just once in the past 12 years," he said.
