A 76-FOOT super yacht was led back to shore last Friday after it started to take on water near Bribie.

The five people on board at the time were concerned the yacht might sink and made distress calls about 4.30pm. The rough conditions didn't make it easier for those on board.

Bribie Island Volunteer Marine Rescue secretary Peter Morton said the Free Spirit motorcruiser was helped by water police who guided the boat to Scarborough.

VMR Bribie was contacted and waited in Pumicestone passage to rescue if needed, however they were not required.

"They were taking water but managed to secure the engine area and push on," Mr Morton said.

A news helicopter followed the yacht back to Scarborough. All on board made it back safely.
