Paddlers in battle

Noosa Outriggers paddled in short and long course events at the Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club Regatta in one- and two-person outrigger canoes last Saturday.

Noosa Outriggers have invited the public to a come and try day on October 24.

Noosa Outriggers paddled in short and long course events at the Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club Regatta in one- and two-person outrigger canoes last Saturday.

This was the third in the series and included competition for stand-up paddle board and skis. Roger Arbuckle, Steve Wade, Ken Mitchell and Mick Hamnett entered the 8km short course event.

Northerly winds meant the 14km long course event would run from Mooloolaba to Moffat Beach instead of the other way, but as breaking waves and stronger winds made safety a concern, it was decided to cancel the race in favour of a training run, as support vessels were having trouble.

Steve Wade, Des Mabbott and Roger Hansard enjoyed the fast 80-minute run, catching waves with a strong wind behind them. Results and times are listed on the Mooloolaba OCC or AOCRA websites.

Noosa hosts the fourth Regatta in this series on October 17 and promises an interesting course.
