Match comes down to wire

Tewantin-Noosa and the Hinterland Hawks fought out a thriller second day of their clash.

Tewantin-Noosa batsman Chris Wright goes on the attack at Read Park.

Tewantin-Noosa and the Hinterland Hawks fought out a thriller second day of their clash, in which both teams would have been proud of their efforts as not a minute was wasted.

Continuing on from the 8-172 scoreline, the visitors reached 218 and would have been optimistic as the Thunder came in to bat, 114 runs behind.

This prompted one of the home side’s special surges.

A Chris Wright 68 onslaught was overshadowed by 138 from Jarrod Officer as the total raced to 278 off 57 overs.

Now the Hawks needed 165 to win outright in 28 overs.

Fifty-eight from Matt Cahill with 60 by Josh Kerr reduced the equation to three runs from the final ball.

Cahill’s turn to leg was never going to be more than two, but a suicide third had to be tried.

Then the scores were level, with the result a first innings win to Hinterland.

The result means Hinterland have jumped Tewantin-Noosa into fifth place on the ladder.
