Under-14 Layton Lepetit performs well in the beach flags event.
With fierce competition at the state surf champs in Dicky Beach, Team Sunshine finished fourth in the overall point score.
Under-14s Alex Nolan and Peter Tilleard delivered the first state titles for the season, with gold in the champion lifesaver event, while Taylor and Molly Redwood claimed silver in the under-19 and under-17 champion lifesaver events respectively.
Under-14 Ashlea DeCent finished fourth in the champion lifesaver, before the under-15 patrol comp team of Georgia Nolan, Maddy Ashman, Jack Tait and Meg Atkin claimed bronze. Maddy and Georgia picked up a fourth in the first aid comp.
With Mooloolaba Beach playing host to the Fastest Man on the Sand event, Coach Omar Bakhach took a strong team along, in what was another successful day out for the “Beachies”.
Under-11s Brooke Jeynes, Morgan Emmett, Jayden Lepetit, Niamh Johnstone and Ali Bakhach put in fantastic performances in the relays, sprints and flags, setting the standard for the older age groups.
Under-12s Luis Fonseca, Madison Charlton, Zion Pettigrove, Thomas Wilson and Tom Hancock made their mark in all events, with the highlight being a gold medal run in the mixed beach relay.
Tom Hancock then backed up for another solid performance in the under-12 flags event.
Under-13s Maxim Oddoux and Ellen Lavender performed solidly in the flags, sprints and relays, as did under-14s Aimee Coleman and Layton Lepetit.
To round out the day, a last minute decision to rustle up a composite under-14 mixed relay team comprising Layton, Aimee, Maxim and secret weapon Frances Wilson saw the team take out silver in the final in an outstanding effort.
