Bill's crown sits heavy

It was a case of “heavy lies the head that wears the crown” for Bill Brown in Week 3 of the summer table tennis competition.

Bill, last year’s individual trophy winner, had the equivalent of a bad hair day only managing to win a lone singles against heavyweight Heinz Schwartz 14/12 in the fifth.

Martin Reynolds won his three singles to lead the Martians to an 8/4 victory over the Jaybirds including a tough five-set win over Kimberley Wheller who is still in good form despite restricting her training due to university commitments.

In Division 2, Adam Topolaglu remains undefeated and has established himself as one of the players to beat. His big test will come next week when he clashes with fellow musketeer Cameron Matthews, the favourite to end the season at the top of the individual table. Thomas Cervi was untroubled in winning his three singles without loss and remains in contention for the individual trophy.

Div 1. Amici (H Schwartz, S Ciercan, O Gill) def. Blizzard (B Brown, B Baxter, S Roney) 8/4. Mercenaries (M Reynolds, M Petersen, H Robb) def. Jaybirds (K Wheller, A Munro, J Gifford) 8/4.

Div 2. Bruisers (A Topolaglu, K Bridgewood, B Muller) def. Martians (M Allsop, P Altano, R Adcock) 7/5. SWAT (T Cervi, T Ryan, G Gillanders) def. Dreamers (M Clarke, D Adcock, W Spiers) 9/3.

Competition night: Wednesday, 7pm. Practice night: Monday, 7pm. Free coaching and use of the robot available for all including juniors. Social play: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 1pm to 3pm
