Sunrise Beach golfer Katherine Hull has been beaten by genius in her bold bid to defend her Australian Ladies Masters golf title on the Gold Coast last Sunday.

It took Australian great Karrie Webb recapturing some of the best form of her life in shooting a course-record 11-under 61 to shut a never-say-die Hull out of the contest.

Hull told ABC radio that she was in awe of the seven-time Masters winner’s closing round form and all she could do was just appreciate a special performance.

Webb took a one stroke lead in ahead of Hull and South Korea’s Lee Bo-mee on the final day at Royal Pines and finished well clear with a 26-under 262.

Hull and Lee shot 66s to tie for second.

The Noosa champ said Webb played “flawless golf”.

“It was just rock solid,” Hull said.

“She was swinging it well all day. I couldn’t make a putt coming in, but it was just absolutely clinic golf on Karrie’s part.”

Webb holed an eagle on the par-4 seventh and made a monster putt on 18 for her ninth birdie.

Webb said she was exhausted from the duel with Hull earlier in the round.

“Katherine was pushing me all the way,” Webb said.

“Just when I thought I created some breathing space, she came back with a birdie.”

Hull said she has to be more disciplined, but overall she was happy with her game.

“I tried my best, but it just wasn’t good enough. Hall of Fame players (Webb) don’t lie down.

“I enjoyed watching it. I was playing well. I had two bogeys, but everything else was pretty solid.”

After Webb’s eagle, Hull said she knew the golf legend was going to post a good score.

Hull said she felt she played better this year than in 2009 when she strolled to victory.

“Hopefully I will be able to carry this momentum on for the rest of the year.”
