Beerwah has win with last kick

It was a case of “so near and yet so far” for the Noosa Football club's Premier Division side on Saturday as Beerwah stole a point with the last kick of the match.

After taking an early lead through a Nicol Watson header from a corner, Noosa dominated the game and created chance after chance but simply could not find a way past the inspired home team's goal-keeper.

Goal-mouth scrambles and brilliant individual efforts from Stuart Ferris, Luke Willmott and Kevin Clarke were all kept out by the Beerwah defence. As time ticked away, Noosa looked certain to claim all three points and hold second spot in the competition.

But the referee found five minutes of additional time and with literally the last kick of the game, Beerwah scored to leave the Noosa players feeling deflated.

This weekend, Noosa hosts Nambour Yandina United and will need to find their form in front of goal as chances are likely to be rare. The circumstances of the draw will be a salutary lesson for the Noosa players and should ensure they retain their concentration to the final whistle, as well as making sure they maximise their return on opportunities to score.

The 2nd Division side dropped points, following their 3-3 draw earlier in the day. Apologies to the Reserve team for last week's mistake when their 1-0 win was erroneously reported as 2-1.

The Ladies team was held to a 3-3 draw on Friday night against Woombye despite attacking play. The Over 35(1)s made hard work of a 9-0 win over Caboolture. The Over 35(2)s went down 2-0 at Buderim.

At the weekend, the Under 7s swapped their usual strips for the green and gold of Australia. Each player had raised sponsorship funds in a “Dribblathon”.
