A second Queensland Open title in four years would serve as the perfect preparation for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, according to world number five and Noosa product Kelsey Cottrell.
Having prevailed in a thrilling tie-breaker in 2007, Cottrell returns to the $40,000 grand prix tomorrow as the tournament favourite, but is taking nothing for granted with a white-hot field expected to assemble at Bribie Island.
Cottrell has been granted direct entry into the women's singles field along with defending champion Bec Quail, but is hopeful, rather than over confident, of reclaiming the BCiB Queensland Open crown.
“I'd love to win another grand prix title,” she said.
“Especially the singles, as it would be another positive ahead of the Delhi Commonwealth Games.
“It should be tough competition, which is just what I need, so hopefully I can win my way through to the TV matches.”
The 20-year-old captured the last of her three grand prix titles more than 12 months ago.
Among those attempting to qualify are past and present internationals Carmen Anderson, Kelli Wray, Kay Moran, Katrina Wright, Brenda Thompson, Marilyn Peddell and world number six Karen Murphy.
Staged over six days, the BCiB Queensland Open is a qualifier for the 2011 Australian Open.
