Police have charged a Gympie woman accused of creating an abusive Facebook page.
POLICE have charged a Gympie woman accused of creating an abusive Facebook page aimed at slain Sunshine Coast woman Justine Jones.
Police charged a 22-year-old Southside woman yesterday with one count of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.
She will appear in Gympie Magistrates Court at a date to be set.
Police have recovered and have in their possession the woman's computer, which she initially told officers she had thrown in a river.
On Wednesday, the Daily revealed police were closing in on the woman, who allegedly used the fake name Wendy Woods to create the Justine Jones hate page.
Ms Jones's body was discovered at the Nambour rubbish tip last week.
Richard Peter Coburn, 26, of Sippy Downs, has been charged with murder.
The content of the page is too graphic to print. It included images of pornography and human remains.
In online documents obtained by the Daily, the woman boasted about her “achievement” of having the page in the media.
She described herself as a “troll”, a person who defaces internet tribute sites with the aim of causing further grief to mourning families, and said “the Queensland police don't have a leg to stand on”.
The Daily's source, a cyber sleuth who provided documentation of the woman's online activity, said many people in the Gympie area knew the woman had been trolling tribute sites.
“People are really starting to make noise about the disgusting things trollers do to tribute sites,” she said.
“They think they are untouchable.”
