Think of sex kittens Eartha Kitt, Sophia Loren and Megan Fox.

Now think of the other meaning.

The RSPCA Noosaville Shelter launched a Weapons of Mass Production campaign last week.

Feline fans have been encouraged to head to an RSPCA shelter until the first week of December for a huge discount on the cost of having their cat desexed and microchipped.

Sunshine Coast council has backed the RSPCA program after 1500 cats were handed over to the RSPCA’s care last season.

When summer rolls around this year, volunteers do not want another massive influx of unwanted puddy-tats.

Noosa Shelter manager Nicole Cleary, who has worked at the animal shelter for 15 years, said there was room for “a lot more calls” from people wanting their cats desexed.

“We want to reduce the number of cats for next summer,” Ms Cleary said.

“Obviously it’s heartbreaking for staff to deal with the overpopulation problem. We had more than 1500 cats in the last season and between 300 and 400 were euthanised.”

Pensioners and health care card holders can have cats desexed and microchipped for $59 (half price).

“We’re trying to have about 60 to 70 cats taken care of each week,” Ms Cleary said. “That would add up to about 250 cats by the end of the program.”

Ms Cleary said there were clear benefits of having a desexed cat.
