'No crowd crush at Splendour'

ORGANISERS of the high-profile Splendour in the Grass music festival have been quick to alleviate fears for patron safety in the wake of the deadly Love Parade dance party in Germany.

One Australian was among 20 fatalities during the crush at the weekend in Duisburg, just days before one of the largest music events in Australia is due to commence its 10th anniversary celebrations.

Kicking off tomorrow, Splendour is expected to draw 32,000 patrons to country Queensland.

The crowd projections fall far short of the 1.4 million revellers allegedly involved in the fatal Love Parade crush that left another 511 people injured.

Splendour producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco told brisbanetimes.com.au the “dreadfully tragic” news of the now-terminated Love Parade emphasised the necessity of robust safety precautions.
