PRIME Minister Julia Gillard says she doesn't believe that her life choices will influence voters in the August 21 election.

Australia's first female politician is the cover girl and main attraction of the August edition of Australia's most influential women's magazine, The Australian Women's Weekly, out on Wednesday.

Ms Gillard, who is in a long term relationship with Tim Mathieson, has never married and has no children. Nor is she concerned about that.

"It's not that I have anything against the institution of marriage, it's just the accumulation of a set of life choices that has led me to this point," she tells the Weekly in an excerpt on its website.

She says she and Mr Mathieson will live together at The Lodge if she is elected, but would not marry just to impress voters.

"I'm not going to rule anything in or out, but I would say that any discussion about marriage would be about me and Tim, not about The Lodge, or being prime minister or elections or government, or any of those things."

She doesn't think people worry if she is married or not.

"I really don't think people would much care.

"I'm not preaching my life choices as a model for other people. It's my life, I made my choices, I don't regret my choices nor am I urging anybody to mimic them."

Ms Gillard appears in several photos in the spread, but she's dressed in smart business attire, and not a feather boa in sight.
