Raising dust and dollars for disability are rally driver Des Reed (left) , navigator Don Reed with fellow drivers Danny Clarke (rear left) and Danny Reed.
As a novice in the Great Endeavour Rally, Noosa’s Don Reed gave himself a 70% success rate as a navigator even though the rough roads fairly well bushwhacked him.
“I never knew there were so many dirt roads between Burleigh Heads (the starting line) and Port Macquarie,” said Don who was part of the local three-pronged Snot Racing rally attack.
Actually the intrepid team of the Reeds, with Des and Danny in the thick of the bash as well as Paul Hardman and Karen and Danny Clark, had to go further south all the way to Wingham, before heading back up to the finish line at Bargara.
In all they covered more than 3000km as part of 64-strong rally team.
The Snot Racers (as in “it’s not racing”) had two rally cars as well as a back-up vehicle that was kept busy hauling contestants back onto the road.
The official trouble-shooting four-wheel drive vehicle had to be winched out of trouble, while Danny and Paul in the Snot Racing back-up helped Stacy Maltby and her rolled Landcruiser get back into the action.
This was when they were not towing bogged cars and entrants who “tried to make their own tracks off the road”.
Don said Danny and Karen were the stand-out performers, winning their division for six cylinder vehicles built from 1988 onwards.
Des Reed’s challenge died when an electrical fault forced the car out of two stages.
Don said they are already planning for next year’s rally.
This year’s event raised more than $330,000 – with around $7000 coming from the efforts of Snot Racing.
“During the event the rally visited three Endeavour workshops to the delight of the clients who love seeing the cars,” Don said.
The Snot Racers were delighted with their local sponsors who were: Suncoast Auto Parts, Sunrise Hills Welding, Des Reed Autos, Dowling Neylan Rental Accommodation, Richard and Wrench Real Estate Noosa, Bushman Insect Repellent, Noosa Village Autos, O Boats Boat Hire, Noosa Jetty Builders, Tyre Power Noosa, Ultimate Power Steering, Brinkley and Co Solicitors, Suncoast Bolts and Fastenings, Noosa Discount Timbers, The Yard Landscape Supplies, My Scape, Solar Power Specialists, Jack Quick Fit Tyres, Murphy and Nowland Nurseries, Pro Pine, Express Pallets and Crates, Hire Zone Noosa, Scooter Style, Repco Noosa, Worth Workshop Products, Rob Abbas Consultants.
