Pirates seek their treasure

A golden opportunity awaits the Matrix Noosa Pirates to secure a semi-final birth when they take on old foe the Maroochydore Swans at Pirate Park this Sunday.

A week of rest would have done the boys wonders and also the opportunity to lick their wounds and ready themselves to knock any chance the Swans may have thought they had of making the final this season.

The Pirates may be without captain and coach Dane Campbell for the remainder of the season, but the return of star playmaker Sean Pickup will definitely boost the morale of the side with only three games remaining.

With centres Anthony Zipf and Aaron Fuller expected to be fit for the game, the Pirates backline is shaping up nicely. Young wingers Brad McCarthy and Troy Chisholm are growing in confidence and the safe play of fullback Steve McMichan is paying dividends for the side.

The work of the forwards has been outstanding this season and with Trent Heathwood, Steve Rameka and Colin Green leading the line and the tireless work of Michael Smith, Corey Deitrich and the machine-like Zac Friend have glued the Pirates as a forward pack demanding respect.

The Pirates know the importance of this game and are determined to stamp their authority early and send a warning to the other sides tipped for the finals of their determination and seriousness to take out the premiership this season.

It should be a great game of running rugby league, so make sure you get to Pirate Park and support the Pirates.

The Under-18s kick off at 11.50am, followed by the Reggies at 1.20pm and then the big one at 3pm – Noosa v Maroochydore.
