Young Kodi Wulff hooked and landed this 7kg amberjack at Double Island Point using a knife jig as his draw card.
Offshore fishing was on-again-off-again this week – pretty lumpy some days and flattened out on others. There were some big trips this week out wide. Moses perch, pearl perch and Venus tusk fish were common to all reefs.
Double Island Point was worth the effort, with excellent snapper, Maori cod and quality scarlet sea perch.
The Barwon Banks produced red throat emperor, hussar and this week’s better quality snapper while The Hards also fired and produced snapper in numbers, morwong, hussar, mahi mahi, red emperor and amberjack in numbers.
At North Reef, the standouts were Maori cod, teraglin jewfish and squire while at Sunshine Reef it was mostly snapper, red emperor, sweetlip and the odd coral trout. Spotted and shiny mackerel were thick at Little Halls Reef earlier in the week, as were snapper and sweetlip.
There was plenty of action along the coastal surf beaches this week. Some exciting sessions on the Noosa North Shore, just north of Teewah, with some of the biggest dart ever caught there, along with bream, flathead, chopper tailor and whiting. Around the National Park headland, tailor and tuna could be seen hammering through the garfish schools. Northern Sunshine Beach fished well this week, with the high tide just after dark with a full moon, producing some excellent tailor to 3kg and jewfish to 80cm.
In the river, there has also been jewfish activity along the ski run on soft plastics, quality bream along the Sheraton Bridge stretch and the river mouth and the odd big whiting.
There has been tailor and trevally in the Woods Bays and mangrove jack active and starting to feed around the back of Noosa Sound.
